Continuing to archive off-air recordings of, primarily, U.S. based shortwave pirate radio shows as I heard them. I hope these off-air recordings will convey a sense of "being there" as these impromptu shows were happening.
WTCR, Twentieth Century Radio, hosted by Dr. Morbius (of 1956 sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet"), plays, as the name suggests, rock and pop music classics of the 20th Century, usually with a powerful signal heard around North America and even logged in Europe. From June 7-8, 2008 broadcast, 0143-0314 UTC on 6925 kHz in USB mode. This particular show was logged around the U.S., Canada and in the UK.
Notable moments from the nearly one and one-half hour audio file include station IDs:
01:20 minutes (female "robot" voice, partially under short burst of RFI);
32:49 (female voice);
57:28 (male voice);
1:07:53 (Dr. Morbius voice);
1:25:17 (sign-off ID, foreign female robot voice, QSL info).
Playlist includes, in order, songs from Little Feat, War, Stevie Wonder, Toots & Maytals, Chambers Brothers, Kool & Gang, Amboy Dukes, Spirit, Byrds, Joe Walsh, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Eric Burden & Animals, Rolling Stones, Hollies, Beach Boys, Dion, Elvis, Drifters, O'Jays, Kinks, CCR. Good audio quality and dynamic range throughout. Receiver retuned slightly during "I Got a Line On You" by Spirit to correct for slight drift.
Recorded off-air in N. Central Texas with steady S9 signal, often peaking +10, with little fade, overpowering background noise from summer storms. Reciever: Palstar R30C, 30' random wire antenna. SINPO - 55344
